Hard of Hearing

Hard of Hearing

According to statistics, one out of every six adults has a hearing loss, but the degree varies from person to person. Hearing impairment is like myopia and astigmatism. As long as you are willing to face up to the problem as soon as possible and seek professional assistance, the symptoms will have a chance to be improved.

Due to various environmental factors and daily life habits, the number of hearing impaired people continues to rise. According to the World Health Organization report:

In 2011, it is estimated that approximately 360 million people worldwide suffer from hearing loss, including 32 million children.

In 2019, it is estimated that approximately 466 million people in the world are hearing impaired, of which 34 million hearing impaired people are children.

Different Kinds of Hearing Loss

The nature of hearing loss in adults and children can be differentiated into 3 categories: sensorineural hearing loss ,conductive hearing loss and mixed hearing loss.

Sensorineural hearing loss

Sensorineural hearing loss: could be developed as a result of noise exposure for long period, aging (presbycusis), inner ear disease including infection or autoimmune disease, ototoxic drugs, hearing loss that runs in the family, etc. Most of the sensorineural hearing loss are irreversible yet could be managed by EasyHear. Attention should be paid on sudden hearing loss or hearing loss which is linked to other symptoms which might need medical intervention. General sensorineural hearing loss has the following symptoms:

  • Problems with speech comprehension
  • “Mumbling” and incomprehensible feeling when listening to others
  • Loss of sensitivity to forward sounds in a noisy environment
  • Difficulty understanding speech when listening to the phone
  • Lack of sound directionality (especially high-frequency sound)

Conductive hearing loss

Conductive hearing loss: often resulted from malformation of the outer ear or middle ear structures, chronic middle ear infection, perforated eardrum, earwax obstruction, etc. Conductive hearing loss could be referred to medical experts for treatment, and the communication issue as a consequence of the untreatable conductive hearing loss can be resolved by hearing aids.

General conductive hearing loss has the following symptoms:

  • Problems with speech comprehension
  • The sound is unclear
  • Hearing loss in one ear, or one ear can hear better than the other ear
  • Pressure or pain in one or both ears
  • Lack of balance
  • Inflammation of the middle ear, the ear may have a peculiar smell or fluid leaking from the ear.

Mixed Hearing Loss

Mixed hearing loss: can result from the combination of the above causes of conductive and sensorineural hearing loss. Audiological and medical intervention plans are often used in combination for the best treatment outcome.

Hard of hearing solution

Most hearing impaired people are also perceptual and mixed hearing impaired. It is particularly difficult for them to receive conversations in noise. Therefore, 5G high-efficiency noise reduction and human voice discrimination technologies are of utmost importance to them. According to the clinical evidence of the University of Hong Kong, 91% of users feel that it is better than the previous one.

Mr. Dannie Lee
Profound hearing loss
Over 15 years experience in using hearing aids

Started with special education, Dannie then studied in mainstream secondary school. Now he is studying music at the University of Hong Kong. Dannie has profound hearing loss which means he can hardly be involved in daily conversation if unaided. In meeting and conversation, he would be locked in silence if he forgets to wear hearing aids. He finds himself very lucky because he started wearing hearing aids at 4, so he does not resist it like many of his peers or relatives do.

Dannie has tried different types of hearing aid. The new generation of hearing aid is powered by 5G, with bluetooth connecting smartphones and telephones. Facilitated the daily life of hearing impaired. Even from a distance, Dannie could now listen to speech easily. Hearing aid is now part of Dannie. He can enjoy the lovely sounds and listen to every word. Thanks to the technology. Dannie is now leading a vigorous life.
